Manufacturing sector faces skills shortage amid AI and automation shift

The manufacturing sector is facing a significant transformation driven by automation, artificial intelligence, and digitalization. According to a ManpowerGroup global report, 72% of manufacturing companies worldwide struggle to find qualified workers, while 60% of employees reported receiving no skills-focused training in the last six months.

This trend is particularly impactful for the Czech Republic, where manufacturing accounts for 24.7% of employment, significantly higher than the EU average of 15.4%. The shift is increasing demand for technical, digital, and AI-related expertise, including specialists in robotics and automation.

In response to these challenges, companies like TRUMPF are introducing technological solutions to mitigate labor shortages and increase flexibility. At EuroBLECH 2026, TRUMPF presented the TruLaser Weld 3000, a compact robotic laser welding cell. Utilizing AI through its 'TeachLine AI' function, the system can detect welding deviations and correct robot paths automatically. This technology allows for faster programming—reducing setup time by up to 50%—and enables less experienced employees to operate complex machinery effectively.
