Manus AI startup raises $500M+ after Meta acquisition was blocked by China

AI agent developer Manus, through its parent company Butterfly Effect, has raised over $500 million in a new funding round. The round was co-led by Boyu Capital and IDG Capital, with participation from existing investors including Tencent, HSG (formerly Sequoia China), and ZhenFund.

This significant capital injection follows the collapse of a $2 billion acquisition deal by Meta Platforms Inc. in early 2025. The deal was blocked by Chinese regulators due to concerns regarding the transfer of domestic AI expertise and talent to Western entities. Following the regulatory intervention, Manus resumed independent operations and relocated its headquarters to Singapore.

While the company has not officially disclosed its valuation, reports indicate the new funding round places Manus at an estimated valuation of approximately $4 billion, roughly double the price previously offered by Meta. The company is also reportedly considering an initial public offering (IPO) in Hong Kong.

Manus has recently expanded its product suite with the launch of Manus 2.0 and a standalone application called Cue, which enables AI agents to perform complex digital tasks such as managing emails, making phone calls, and handling payments.
