Manzanedo de Valdueza flood kills two women and injures two infants

A severe storm in northwestern Spain caused a deadly flood and landslide in the villages of Manzanedo de Valdueza and Bouzas, near Ponferrada. The disaster resulted in the deaths of two women, aged approximately 60 and 80, after water and mud inundated a wine cellar where six people were present.

Two children, a three-month-old baby and a four-year-old, sustained minor injuries and were treated for bruises. An 80-year-old man who was initially reported missing was located unharmed. The Meruelo River overflowed during the event, and the landslide was potentially exacerbated by land instability from previous wildfires in the region.

The storm also caused significant material damage, including vehicles being swept away in Bouzas and road closures affecting access to Peñalba de Santiago. Local authorities in Ponferrada have declared three days of official mourning.
