Manzanillo authorities begin recovery work on La Boquita bridge
The municipal government of Manzanillo, in coordination with the State of Colima, has started initial recovery operations on the collapsed La Boquita bridge, which fell on July 25. Workers are removing the failed structure and installing a stabilizing slab to allow an industrial crane to access the site. Technical inspections are underway to determine the cause of the collapse; early reports point to a load‑calculation error during the bridge’s 2017 reconstruction. The effort follows environmental‑protection guidelines to minimise impact on the surrounding ecosystem. Officials say the work aims to restore a safe crossing for residents and visitors to the La Boquita area and the nearby Cerro de Juluapan.
