Manzanillo customs seizes 54 tons of anhydrous dextrose from China

Mexican authorities have seized 54,432 kilograms of anhydrous dextrose USP at the Manzanillo customs in Colima. The shipment originated from Qingdao, China, and was identified through risk analysis mechanisms implemented by the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM).

While the substance has legitimate uses, the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), ANAM, and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) determined that it could be misused as a cutting agent or diluent for illicit drugs. Additionally, authorities noted the chemical could be used in the clandestine manufacture or adulteration of pharmaceutical products.

The seizure was formalized at the request of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), which is leading the investigation into the shipment's final destination and legal responsibilities. No arrests or specific company names have been released as of the report.
