Mao Shun-kwan debuts in Cantonese opera stage play

The stage playDai Sei Chang Yat’ (大死撐日) has officially commenced its 44-show run at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Starring Mao Shun-kwan, Lam Yat-hei, and Pak Chi, the production features significant Cantonese opera elements.

Mao Shun-kwan, making her stage play debut, has maintained a disciplined lifestyle regarding diet and sleep to meet the high physical demands of the performance. Despite suffering a ligament injury during rehearsals, she has continued with the production. Her co-stars, Lam Yat-hei and Pak Chi, expressed being deeply impressed by her proficiency in Cantonese opera, noting that her skill level far exceeded their expectations.

Pak Chi, who approached the role with no prior knowledge of Cantonese opera, was praised by Mao for his hard work and dedication to learning the craft. The cast also noted a coincidence that Mao and Pak share the same birthday.
