Maple Bay Rowing Club takes second in Race Around the Rock
The Maple Bay Rowing Club crew, known as Team Coastal Locos, secured second place in the Race Around the Rock endurance relay held on August 23. The 88km race circumnavigated Salt Spring Island through the Salish Sea.
Team Coastal Locos maintained an early lead through the first four stages, reaching the first stop more than 10 minutes ahead of the competition. However, the False Creek Rowing Club of Vancouver overtook them at Fernwood Beach. False Creek won the race with a time of 7:48:01, while the Maple Bay crew finished in 8:23:40.
The event featured 125 entries from 19 international clubs. The course consisted of seven rugged segments, including legs from Fulford Harbour to Burgoyne Bay and back to Fulford Harbour.
