Maple Ridge bear attack: RCMP kills incorrect bear
A three-year-old girl was injured in a bear attack at a residential property in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, on Sunday morning. The child was playing on a backyard deck when an adult black bear attacked her. A parent intervened to chase the bear away, and the girl was airlifted to BC Children’s Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the incident, the RCMP shot a black bear that appeared aggressive and had returned to the area multiple times. However, the BC Conservation Officer Service announced on Monday that a necropsy determined the bear killed by officers was not the one responsible for the attack.
A Predator Attack Team has been deployed to the scene, and an investigation is ongoing to locate the correct bear. Authorities are advising residents in the surrounding area to remain aware and stay indoors.
