Maple Ridge, British Columbia Wildfire Contained Near UBC Research Forest

A wildfire ignited on the evening of May 22 in the Rock Ridge area of Maple Ridge, BC, adjacent to the University of British Columbia's Malcolm Knapp Research Forest. The blaze covered roughly 1.5 hectares and was tackled by about 25 firefighters, who reported stable conditions and no escalation by Saturday morning.

Authorities said there were no injuries and no immediate threat to nearby properties. Smoke may affect residents, prompting advisories to keep windows closed and limit outdoor exposure. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the public was warned against operating drones near the site to avoid interfering with firefighting aircraft.
