Mapo-gu to launch experiential environmental school for elementary students

Mapo-gu is launching the ‘Mapo Environmental School,’ an experiential educational program designed to teach elementary school students about resource circulation and carbon neutrality. Running from September 15 to October 7, the program targets students in grades 3 through 5.

Participants can choose between two specialized courses. Course A includes visits to the recycling education center at Mapo Central Library and the Seoul Energy Dream Center. Students will learn proper waste separation using cans and transparent PET bottles before taking an eco-tour via electric bus to visit Noeul Park and the Mapo Resource Recovery Facility.

Course B focuses on sustainable consumption by visiting local businesses in Mangwon-dong, such as the repair shop ‘Gomson’ and ‘Almang Store.’ Students will participate in zero-waste education, create keyrings from recycled materials, and learn about refillable and packaging-free shopping methods.

Schools interested in participating must submit applications by August 28. Priority will be given to schools that have not previously participated in the program.
