MapQuest reaches top navigation app spot in U.S. amid expansion
MapQuest has experienced a significant surge in popularity, recently reaching the top spot for most downloaded navigation apps in the U.S. App Store and climbing to number one among all free apps. This resurgence is attributed to the company’s decision to maintain traditional geographic names, such as Lake Ontario, following political disputes regarding naming conventions.
In tandem with its rising market share, MapQuest is currently testing experimental support for Android Auto. The latest update includes a new crowdsourced incident reporting feature that allows users to report collisions, closures, traffic, and police activity. While the Android Auto integration is currently in a beta stage and has faced some early user reports of latency and interface issues, the company aims to refine the experience as part of its ongoing expansion.
