Maputo reports military shooting incident and rising stroke deaths

In Maputo, Mozambique, a man is in serious condition at the Maputo Central Hospital after being shot during an incident involving military personnel. The event occurred near the Chemical Engineering Barracks when a vehicle belonging to a Mozambique Republic Police agent suffered a mechanical failure. Military personnel guarding the perimeter reportedly fired more than 15 shots at the vehicle after ordering the driver to enter the facility. A passenger in the vehicle was struck by a projectile and is currently unable to walk due to the location of the bullet.

Separately, health authorities in Maputo have raised alarms regarding rising stroke mortality rates. Data from the Maputo Central Hospital shows that 30 people died from strokes during the first half of the year out of 150 diagnosed patients.
