Mar de Ajó Hospital adds bucomaxillofacial surgery services

The Municipality of La Costa has introduced bucomaxillofacial surgery services at the Mar de Ajó Municipal Hospital. This addition aims to expand the public health system's capacity to provide complex, free dental interventions locally, reducing the need for patient referrals outside the district.

Led by surgeon Dr. Renata Pessotano, the service handles specialized procedures including wisdom tooth extractions, frenectomies, biopsies, and trauma treatments. Since its implementation, more than 90 surgeries have already been performed.

This development complements existing dental infrastructure in the region. The Santa Teresita Municipal Dental Center reported serving over 12,500 patients and providing 31,800 services during its first year of operation. The center offers general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, and interdisciplinary care for individuals with disabilities or medical risks. Digital dental radiology equipment is also available across three locations: the Mar de Ajó Hospital, the Las Toninas Sanitary Unit, and the Santa Teresita Municipal Dental Center.
