Argentina's June long weekend records low tourism activity
A CAME survey found that the June 15‑17 long weekend, commemorating Martín Miguel de Güemes, attracted 993,683 tourists nationwide, generating an economic impact of roughly $216.6 million. The holiday registered the lowest travel movement of 2026, a 37.7 % rise over the same date in 2025 (adjusted for the two‑holiday June period of that year). Average daily spending fell 3.5 % to $109,013 per person and the average stay shortened to two days, a 13 % drop.
Travel concentrated on nature‑based and winter‑sport destinations. Bariloche, San Martín de los Andes, Villa La Angostura and Ushuaia led the Patagonia surge, while Puerto Iguazú, the Esteros del Iberá and Entre Ríos’ hot springs drew visitors in the Litoral. In the north, Salta and Jujuy saw strong attendance, and Mendoza recorded a 53 % hotel occupancy with about 51,600 tourists and roughly $10.5 million in spending. The sector noted a trend toward brief, last‑minute trips and moderate consumption, influenced by the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the approaching winter vacation period.
