Argentina faces transport and healthcare service disruptions

Argentina is facing several localized crises in public services and transportation. In the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA), bus usage dropped by 19.1% in July compared to the previous year, with 28 million fewer tickets sold due to rising fares. Additionally, the SUBE network eliminated the 50% discount for passengers combining trains and subways, a move that has sparked political tension between national and city governments.

Healthcare services are also under pressure. In Trenque Lauquen, the Hemodynamics Service at Hospital Pedro Orellana suspended care for IOMA affiliates due to unsustainable financial conditions. Similarly, various day centers and care facilities are threatening to suspend transport services due to months of unpaid claims by the IOMA health insurance provider.

In other regions, taxi organizations in La Plata, Berisso, and Ensenada have formally requested the suspension of a new professional license, citing costs that could rise from $22,000 to $300,000. Meanwhile, municipal governments in Córdoba and Mar del Plata are debating or implementing stricter regulations and heavy fines to combat noise pollution caused by modified vehicle exhausts and illegal street racing.
