Mar del Plata faces rising business closures and security concerns

Mar del Plata is experiencing a significant increase in commercial closures and heightened security challenges. According to a report by the Union of Commerce, Industry, and Production (Ucip), 11.7% of businesses in the city's ten open-air shopping centers are currently closed. This represents 282 closed establishments out of 2,413 surveyed, a 48% increase since May. The most affected areas are Juan B. Justo and 12 de Octubre, with the former seeing a closure rate of 21.6%.

In response to the local complex reality, Mar del Plata Mayor Guillermo Montenegro and Buenos Aires Province Security Minister Javier Alonso met to coordinate new security measures. The meeting focused on increasing police interventions and raids through joint efforts between provincial and federal forces. National security officials are expected to join future working meetings to strengthen criminal information exchange and coordinate the deployment of federal forces in the coastal district.
