Mar del Plata Film Festival to showcase restored Argentine classics

The Mar del Plata International Film Festival has announced details for its ‘Mar del Plata Classics’ section, scheduled for November 5 to 15. The program features restored Argentine films celebrating their 50th anniversaries, made possible through the digital preservation efforts of Fundación GOTIKA, Latam Classics, and the Sociedad para el Patrimonio Audiovisual.

Key screenings include the black comedy ‘Juan que reía’ (1976), starring Luis Brandoni, and ‘No toquen a la nena’ (1976), directed by Juan José Jusid. The festival will also present ‘Piedra libre’, the final work by filmmaker Leopoldo Torre Nilsson, and a restored version of ‘La casa del ángel’.

International tributes are also part of the lineup, including a centenary celebration for Polish director Andrzej Wajda with four film screenings and a lecture, as well as a cycle dedicated to the golden age of Japanese classic cinema in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Argentina.
