Mar del Plata nursing home closed following elder abuse investigation
The Ministry of Health of the Province of Buenos Aires has ordered the closure of the David Senior Residence in Mar del Plata due to operational irregularities. Health authorities stated that the deficiencies found during inspections posed a “flagrant danger to the health of patients.”
In addition to the closure, the company managing the facility has been issued a financial penalty. The closure is not necessarily permanent; the establishment may request to reopen once it corrects the identified irregularities and passes a new inspection to ensure compliance with current regulations.
The administrative action follows a criminal investigation into the alleged physical and verbal abuse of two residents, aged 83 and 93. Security footage reportedly captured these incidents, leading to the indictment of Nicolás Gastón Cichero, a 37-year-old caregiver. One specific incident reported on July 27 involved Cichero allegedly using a spoon to strike an 83-year-old woman, resulting in dental fractures and the loss of two teeth.
