Mar del Plata residents hold citywide cacerolazo over insecurity
On the night of Thursday, July 30, at 9 p.m., self‑organized neighbourhood groups in Mar del Plata called for a citywide cacerolazo, urging residents to bang pots from their homes. The protest, promoted on social media with the slogan “Cacerolazo ante la total falta de seguridad en Mar del Plata,” aimed to draw attention to a surge in robberies, break‑ins and assaults that residents say now affect all districts and hours of the day.
Organisers demanded greater police patrols and effective security policies, arguing that the growing crime wave has made fear a daily reality for families, workers and students alike. The initiative quickly gained traction online, with many citizens pledging to join the simultaneous pot‑clanging to pressure local authorities into action.
