Maré youth showcase mobile-produced short films in Rio de Janeiro
The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (SMCT), is hosting a showcase of short films produced by youth from the Maré community. The event, part of the ‘CINE SESI – Curta Periferias’ project, will take place at Galpão Bela Maré.
The initiative uses audiovisual technology as a tool for professional training, cultural expression, and productive inclusion. Participants learned various filmmaking skills, including scriptwriting, audio and video production, cinematic language, mobile image capture, and editing using free tools. The project aims to develop creative and technical competencies, encouraging youth to transform local stories into cinematic productions.
This action is part of broader municipal efforts to democratize technology access, promote digital inclusion, and strengthen the creative economy within local territories. The project is a collaboration between SMCT, RioFilme, Uniperiferias, Bela Maré, and Observatório de Favelas, in partnership with Firjan SESI and funded by the National SESI Council.
