María Camila Potosí murder and baby Alahia's death confirmed in Cali, Colombia

On July 20, 2024, the body of 21‑year‑old María Camila Potosí was found on the banks of the Meléndez River in the La Buitrera area of Cali. She was eight months pregnant when she was killed; forensic examinations later confirmed that her unborn daughter, named Alahia, had been extracted from her womb and the infant’s remains were recovered in a nearby forested zone.

The National Institute of Legal Medicine identified the recovered remains as those of Alahia through DNA comparison with samples taken from María Camila. The Public Ministry immediately activated a psychosocial assistance route for the victim’s family.

Five suspects have been arrested, including Yulieth Angulo (also known as Julieth) and four men linked to the criminal group Los Santa. Authorities allege that Yulieth infiltrated a support program for pregnant women to gain María Camila’s trust and planned to present the baby as her own, deceiving her partner. The suspects face charges of aggravated femicide, kidnapping, forced disappearance, and evidence tampering.
