María Casado leaves Telecinco weekend news for Canal Sur

Spanish presenter and journalist María Casado announced on Monday that she will quit her role presenting Telecinco’s weekend news bulletins. She reached an agreement with Mediaset that will allow her to spend more time with her daughter and to develop new projects with Canal Sur in Malaga, where she will return to the regional broadcaster.

Casado, who chairs the Spanish TV Academy, has long ties with RTVA’s leadership, including director‑general Juande Mellado and executive Isabel Cabrera. Her career includes nearly two decades at RTVE, hosting programmes such as “Los desayunos”, “La mañana”, and the interview series “Las tres puertas”. Her departure surprised viewers because she had been in the Telecinco weekend slot for only a short period.

The move is framed as a personal‑family decision and a shift back to regional television, where she has previously collaborated with Antonio Banderas’s production company Teatro del Soho Televisión.
