María Consuelo Córdoba requests euthanasia after 26 years of acid attack sequelae
María Consuelo Córdoba, a 58-year-old woman who survived an acid attack in Bogotá in 2000, has requested euthanasia following 26 years of physical and economic hardship. The attack, committed by her former partner, resulted in severe facial injuries and respiratory issues, requiring approximately 87 reconstructive surgeries to date.
Capital Salud, the health provider, clarified that Córdoba already possesses the necessary medical and administrative authorization for the procedure and does not need to restart the application process. The entity stated it will respect her decision and provide continuous humanitarian support.
In response to her difficult living conditions, Colombian businessman Arturo Calle has offered to help secure housing for her. Córdoba’s case has gained national attention, noting her previous decision to postpone the procedure in 2017 after meeting Pope Francis.
