María Consuelo Córdoba withdraws euthanasia request

María Consuelo Córdoba, a survivor of a 2000 acid attack in Bogotá, has withdrawn her request for euthanasia. Her decision follows the acquisition of support for two additional reconstructive surgeries targeting her nose and mouth.

Having undergone approximately 87 surgical procedures over the last 26 years to address the physical and emotional consequences of the assault, Córdoba had previously expressed an intention to seek assisted death due to accumulated suffering. She confirmed her change of heart after being notified by Juan José Castro, creator of the podcast ‘Vamos pa eso’, that the necessary support for her upcoming medical interventions had been secured.

Currently living in Bogotá, Córdoba relies on donations to sustain herself. Her case has drawn national attention in Colombia, reigniting discussions regarding comprehensive care and long-term rehabilitation for victims of chemical violence.
