María Corina Machado outlines vision for Venezuelan political transition

Venezuelan opposition leader and 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado stated that the country's political transition must involve the citizenry rather than being an elite-driven pact. Speaking at the América Libre Forum in Uruguay, Machado emphasized that the transition to democracy must be led by society to ensure its sustainability.

Machado credited the leadership of United States President Donald Trump and Secretary Marco Rubio for the dismantling of the repressive system in Venezuela, following the capture of Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores. She noted that the current phase marks the beginning of the end of the previous regime.

In recent interviews, Machado asserted that her movement is prepared to assume governing responsibilities, focusing on both immediate humanitarian needs and the reconstruction of destroyed national institutions. She maintains that the political cohesion built during the 2023 primary elections has created a unified identity among Venezuelans seeking change.
