María Dueñas releases new Halvorsen Violin Concerto album

Violinist María Dueñas has released a new digital album with Deutsche Grammophon featuring the works of Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen. Recorded live at the Maison symphonique in Montreal with the Orchestre Métropolitain under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the release includes the Violin Concerto, Op. 28, and ‘Chant de la Veslemøy’.

The Violin Concerto, which was considered lost for decades before being rediscovered in 2015, was originally composed for Canadian violinist Kathleen Parlow. Dueñas noted that performing the piece serves as an opportunity to honor Parlow’s legacy.

These recordings are tied to the film ‘Measures for a Funeral’ by Sofia Bohdanowicz, which marked Dueñas’s acting debut. The original motion picture soundtrack is scheduled for release on December 4, featuring these works alongside new music by composer Olivier Alary.
