María Fernanda Cabal resigns from Centro Democrático

María Fernanda Cabal has announced her resignation from the Centro Democrático party, the political group through which she has served in Congress since 2014. Cabal stated that her departure stems from “fundamental differences” between her ideological views and the current political direction of the party.

Cabal explained that she had formally requested an institutional split or exit on August 4, seeking a respectful and democratic way to address doctrinal disagreements without turning the situation into a personal dispute. After waiting for a response that she felt should have been discussed and provided, she decided to move forward independently.

While she noted that her respect for former President Álvaro Uribe remains “unblemished” and she continues to value his legacy of democratic security, she intends to build a new political project. Cabal plans to present her future political path to the country on October 3, with possibilities of forming her own movement and potentially providing endorsements for the 2027 regional elections.
