Maria Herrera wins second consecutive WorldWCR title in Jerez
Spanish rider Maria Herrera has secured her second consecutive WorldWCR (Women's World Championship of Speed) title at the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit. Herrera, riding for Terra & Vita GRT Yamaha, clinched the championship with a sixth-place finish in the race, maintaining a 35-point lead over rivals Beatriz Neila and Paola Ramos. Herrera dedicated her victory to those affected by breast cancer.
The conclusion of the 2026 Superbike season in Jerez also highlighted significant economic impacts for the Andalusia region, with projected tourism and organizational spending exceeding 13.6 million euros.
Looking ahead, the Mayor of Jerez, María José García-Pelayo, announced an ambitious modernization plan for the circuit. Major infrastructure works, including a new paddock and hospital, are scheduled to begin after the 2027 Spanish Grand Prix. These renovations will prevent the circuit from hosting WorldSBK events in 2027, though MotoGP contracts are expected to be extended through 2031.
