MARA Holdings Acquires Texas Powered Land Site for AI and Bitcoin Mining Expansion

MARA Holdings Inc. and HIF USA LLC have signed a definitive agreement for MARA to acquire a more than 1,200‑acre powered land site in Matagorda County, Texas, about 90 miles southwest of Houston. The site is slated to offer up to 1 GW of grid capacity by October 2027 and up to 2 GW by April 2028, enabling a large‑scale digital‑infrastructure campus that will support high‑performance computing workloads and flexible compute operations, including Bitcoin mining. MARA will develop the campus through its partnership with Starwood Digital Ventures, while HIF will retain a minority ownership interest after a lease with an HPC tenant is executed. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, subject to regulatory approvals, and the project is projected to create thousands of jobs and more than double MARA’s total power capacity to roughly 4.8 GW across its portfolio. The announcement triggered a surge in MARA’s shares, which rose over 12% to about $13 and are up more than 45% year‑to‑date, following the earlier $1.5 billion acquisition of Long Ridge Energy & Power.
