Mara Lezama faces scrutiny over private jet travel costs

Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama is facing scrutiny over a series of private jet flights. Investigations indicate that Lezama and her family made at least 43 international trips between December 2018 and December 2025 using aircraft managed by PABE-TAX. This company is a division of Grupo Seguritech, a firm that currently holds security service contracts with the Quintana Roo government.

Reports suggest that approximately 69 flights were made from Cancún, Toluca, and AIFA to various U.S. cities, including destinations like Orlando, Houston, and Washington D.C. The estimated cost for these private flights to the United States is nearly 20 million pesos.

Governor Lezama has denied using public funds for these trips, asserting that they were paid for with her personal resources. She explained that the travel was often necessitated by family circumstances and the challenges of balancing public duties with motherhood. However, opposition legislators have questioned how these costs could be covered by her official salary, calling for greater transparency regarding the source of the funding.
