Dominican Republic PRM party undergoes leadership restructuring
The Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) in the Dominican Republic is undergoing significant leadership restructuring and internal positioning ahead of the 2028 elections. Senator María Mercedes Ortiz Diloné has been elected as the new spokesperson for the PRM bloc in the Senate, a move described as a commitment to female leadership and political renewal.
Regarding the party's executive direction for the 2026-2030 period, Luis Abinader will serve as president. The new leadership will feature three generations of the Mejía family: former president Hipólito Mejía, his daughter Carolina Mejía, and his grandson Juan Garrigó Mejía, who will serve as Secretary General. Carolina Mejía remains a prominent figure in internal presidential preference polls.
In recent polling by ACDmedia, Tourism Minister David Collado emerged as the frontrunner for the PRM presidential candidacy with 59.9% preference among party members, followed by Carolina Mejía at 20%. Additionally, Milton Morrison, president of the País Posible party, has reaffirmed his alliance with President Abinader while announcing his resignation from the Intrant to focus on strengthening his party for the 2028 cycle.
