MARA plans to establish first teaching hospital

Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has initiated a special task force to establish the first Hospital MARA. According to MARA Chairman Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, the hospital is intended to serve as a teaching hospital, a center for health excellence, and a catalyst for the Bumiputera economy.

The proposal leverages MARA’s existing healthcare and education ecosystem, which includes 160 branches of clinics, pharmacies, and dental units nationwide. Key educational components include the UniKL Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP), which offers programs in nursing, pharmacy, and physiotherapy, as well as TVETMARA for technical and medical technology training.

Asyraf Wajdi noted that the hospital would act as a ‘living laboratory’ where various disciplines can converge. This includes integrating biomedical science from UniKL MESTECH with engineering and technology expertise from other UniKL campuses to support medical equipment and hospital systems.
