María Rojo honored as Distinguished Visitor in Veracruz

Mexican actress María Rojo has been honored as a ‘Distinguished Visitor’ by the Veracruz City Council. During a solemn session, Mayor Rosa María Hernández Espejo presented the recognition to celebrate Rojo’s artistic career and her deep connection to the region.

Rojo, an alumna of the Universidad Veracruzana, expressed her emotional ties to the city, stating, ‘Here I spent the best part of my life.’ The recognition highlights her contributions to Mexican cinema, theater, and television, as well as her role in projecting Veracruz’s identity through film.

Currently, Rojo is in Veracruz filming the new production ‘La necedad de los pasos’ in the historic center. Her presence in the city evokes nostalgia for her iconic role in the 1991 film ‘Danzón,’ which was also partially filmed in the port.
