María Soledad Calle investigated over apartment purchase near Cristina Kirchner

Argentine authorities are investigating María Soledad Calle, a union leader linked to the political group La Cámpora, following her purchase of an apartment located directly below former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s house arrest residence in Buenos Aires.

Calle, a leader within the Unión Obrera Metalúrgica (UOM), purchased the 252-square-meter property at San José 1111 for US$189,000, a price reportedly below market value. The transaction has raised questions regarding the origin of the funds, as Calle is currently under investigation by Judge Julián Ercolini for alleged fraudulent administration, fraud, and illicit association.

The investigation focuses on a 2023 agreement where Calle’s company, USEM SA, was granted the administration of 80% of the contributions from approximately 200,000 UOM members in exchange for a 0.5% fee, a deal estimated to generate significant monthly revenue.

In a related development, Judge Rodrigo Giménez Uriburu has requested detailed reports from the electronic surveillance agency (DAPVE) regarding Kirchner’s movements within the building. The magistrate seeks to determine if there is any evidence that the former president has visited Calle’s apartment, specifically monitoring her use of the building’s terrace.
