MARA to appoint former military personnel as wardens at all MRSM schools

Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) will appoint full-time wardens from among former military personnel at all Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) institutions nationwide starting January 1, 2027.

MARA Chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki announced the decision following a pilot project conducted at MRSM Besut and MRSM Balik Pulau. A 191-page research report led by Associate Professor Dr Haliza Abdul Rahman from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) indicated that the presence of former military wardens effectively improved physical security and student discipline.

The study found that the systematic presence of these wardens helped minimize bullying and vandalism, with bullying cases reported as nearly zero during the pilot. Additionally, the wardens assisted in fostering respect, manners, and spiritual values through religious activities. This initiative is also intended to reduce the administrative burden on teachers, allowing them to focus more on academic excellence and student character development.
