María Victoria Bonilla elected to Nariño Women's Advisory Council

María Victoria Bonilla has been elected to represent Ipiales in the newly formed Departmental Advisory Council of Women in Nariño. The council was established to strengthen women's influence in public decision-making and monitor institutional actions regarding their rights and well-being.

Bonilla, who has a background in social and community work, will advocate for the concerns and proposals of women from Ipiales within the department. She noted that the council is a novel mechanism for Nariño, designed to ensure representation across diverse sectors, including rural, indigenous, and women with disabilities.

As a non-remunerated advisory body rather than a political-administrative corporation, the council's primary function is to ensure compliance with public policies regarding women and gender equality.
