Marabá land dispute: Eviction of Mutamba Complex begins
The reintegration of the Mutamba Complex in the rural area of Marabá, Pará, is scheduled to begin. The 12,000-hectare area, which includes the Mutamba, Balão, and Castanhal João Lobo farms, has been the subject of a land dispute since 2003.
Judge Aidison Campos Sousa has ordered the eviction but prohibited the use of private security or armed individuals by the plaintiffs. The operation will be conducted by judicial officers, police forces, social assistance agencies, and emergency services, including the Military Police Special Missions Command, SAMU, and the Fire Department.
The eviction follows a long legal battle involving the heirs of the estate of rancher Aziz Mutran Neto and rural movements. While the Supreme Federal Court (STF) previously suspended the order following a complaint regarding collective eviction rules, the suspension was revoked after local court information was reviewed.
