Marabá suspect arrested for arson causing R$ 1 million in damages

A man, Edinaldo de Oliveira Mendes Júnior, has been arrested by the Military Police in Marabá, Pará, following an arson attack on commercial establishments in the Cidade Nova neighborhood. Surveillance footage identified the suspect interacting with a trash bin before setting fire to the area.

The blaze caused significant damage to several businesses, including the Fill a Fill store, where the owner reported estimated losses of approximately R$ 1 million. The Farmácia Ultrapopular and roughly ten other businesses were also affected. The suspect, who has a prior record for domestic violence, faces up to six years in prison if convicted of intentional arson.
