Maracaibo and Gines launch major municipal waste‑removal campaigns

In Maracaibo, Venezuela, the Municipal Institute of Environment kept up work on the 23 de Marzo ravine, clearing more than 500 tonnes of debris that had accumulated over 17 years. Officials plan to remove a total of about 1,000 tonnes, with each operation targeting roughly 100 tonnes, according to Institute president Janner Pérez: “Tenemos planificado el bote de 100 toneladas en cada operativo… hasta llegar a eliminar la totalidad, calculada en mil toneladas.”

Meanwhile, the town of Gines in Spain began its annual drainage‑cleaning campaign. Coordinated by the Aljarafesa consortium and specialist firm Conlima, crews are clearing leaves, dust and other waste from storm‑drain inlets to reduce the risk of blockages and flooding during the rainy season. The two‑day effort involves bagging the residues for later removal and calls on residents to keep the system clean.
