Maracaibo reports no emergencies following heavy rainfall
The Maracaibo Mayor's Office reported that the city remained in a state of normalcy following intense rainfall and electrical storms on the morning of Wednesday, October 21. Janner Pérez, president of the Municipal Institute of the Environment (IMA), stated that monitoring of the city's drainage channels, or 'cañadas', showed no signs of overflow or emergency.
Pérez attributed the lack of flooding to recent deep sanitation and cleaning work performed on major channels, including the Morillo, Arreaga, Fénix, and Caribe. These maintenance efforts allowed water to flow freely despite the heavy precipitation. The IMA remains on alert and is monitoring community reports through social media and emergency telephone lines.
Meanwhile, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inameh) confirmed cloud development and electrical activity across the Zulia, Bolívar, and Los Andes regions.
