Maracanã stadium begins pitch renovation for football and NFL

The administration of the Maracanã stadium has begun an intensive renovation of its pitch to repair damaged areas and improve field quality. Conducted by the Consórcio Fla-Flu, the technical intervention aims to prepare the surface for upcoming major football matches, including the Flamengo vs. Botafogo derby and the Fluminense vs. Vasco match scheduled for September 5.

The maintenance follows significant criticism from professional athletes regarding the irregular playing surface. Flamengo defender Léo Pereira previously noted that the poor condition of the field hinders tactical performance and technical precision, specifically affecting finishing accuracy during matches.

In addition to meeting the requirements of Brazilian football clubs, the maintenance plan is designed to comply with the strict standards set by the NFL. The American football league is scheduled to host an official international game at the stadium next month.
