Maracay house fire injures elderly woman

An elderly woman, identified as Elvira Rojas, sustained first-degree burns to her face, chest, and back following a house fire in the 23 de Enero sector of Maracay, Venezuela.

The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, September 1, during a local power outage. While attempting to move through her home using a candle, the resident accidentally tripped, causing the flame to ignite a bedsheet. Due to reduced mobility, the woman was unable to escape the spreading fire immediately.

Local residents assisted in rescuing the woman and removed a domestic gas cylinder from the kitchen to prevent an explosion. Emergency responders from the Aragua State Fire Department and PoliGirardot arrived to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. The victim was transported to the Hospital Central de Maracay, where she is reported to be in stable condition.
