Maradona death trial hears nutritionist on final meals

Nutritionist Luciano Spena, who visited Diego Armando Maradona at his home in Tigre on 18 November 2020, will testify in the ongoing criminal trial over the football legend's death. Spena, currently the Argentina national team’s dietician, was turned away by Maradona after being summoned by Swiss Medical, and his testimony will address the former player's poor appetite and the meals he received in his final weeks, including a stew of osobuco, shrimp with garlic and broccoli, and a sandwich he refused.

The trial in Buenos Aires province charges seven health professionals – including former personal doctor Leopoldo Luque, nurse Ricardo Almirón, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, psychologist Carlos Díaz, caretaker Nancy Forlini, nurse‑in‑charge Mariano Perroni, and physician Pedro Di Spagna – with simple homicide by eventual intent. The proceedings continue to examine conflicting medical opinions on Maradona’s death.
