Leopoldo Luque testifies for ninth time in Maradona death trial

Neurosurgeon and former personal doctor Leopoldo Luque appeared before the San Isidro court for a ninth testimony, marking the start of the 21st hearing of the second oral debate in the trial over the death of Argentine football legend Diego Armando Maradona. Luque sought to contextualise audio recordings presented by prosecutors. New witnesses called by prosecutors include security guards Juan Carlos Soto and Sergio Zoppi, who were on duty at the San Andrés country estate in Tigre where Maradona was under home care, and Maximiliano Trimarchi, an assistant linked to lawyer Matías Morla, present on the day of Maradona’s death.

The case also involves six other medical professionals accused of simple homicide with eventual intent: psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, clinician Pedro Di Spagna, nurse Ricardo Almirón, nursing coordinator Mariano Perroni, and Swiss Medical care manager Nancy Edith Forlini. A separate audio from psychologist Carlos Díaz, released by the prosecution, reports that Maradona was “in the last stages” weeks before his death. The trial remains under intense public scrutiny in Argentina.
