Maradona death trial rejects request to detain witness

In a recent hearing of the criminal trial over the death of former football star Diego Armando Maradona, attorney Fernando Burlando asked the Tribunal Oral en lo Criminal No. 3 of San Isidro to detain Nelsa Marilyn Pérez, an administrative employee of the home‑care firm Medidom. Burlando argued that Pérez had given false testimony. Pérez, who participated in a WhatsApp group called "Tigre" used by Medidom and Swiss Medical to coordinate Maradona’s home care, was said to have responded evasively and omitted relevant information.

The judges – Alberto Gaig, Alberto Ortolani and Pablo Rolón – declined the request, allowing Pérez to continue her testimony. The court also scheduled further statements, including from Ricardo Espeche, a Swiss Medical adviser. Maradona had been transferred on 11 November 2020 to the San Andrés country house in Benavídez after discharge from Clínica Olivos and died two weeks later.
