Maradona death trial sees key witnesses testify in Argentina
The criminal trial concerning the November 2020 death of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona is advancing in San Isidro. Witnesses including Vanesa Morla — sister of Maradona’s former lawyer Matías Morla and alleged influencer over the player’s medication — testified about the involvement of doctors Leopoldo Luque and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, and claimed she received a portion of their fees.
Security guard Julio Coria, who was on duty the morning of Maradona’s death, told the court the star appeared "well" that night, contradicting other accounts of his deteriorating condition. Three other custodians, Julio Soria, Marcelo Domínguez and Coria, also gave statements about the home‑care environment in the Tigre residence where Maradona was receiving domiciliary treatment.
Former Star manager and other medical professionals have been questioned about the adequacy of the home‑care setup. Additionally, judges rejected the admission of a recently surfaced video showing former president Cristina Kirchner wishing Maradona a happy 60th birthday, deeming it inadmissible as evidence. The trial continues to probe the responsibilities of doctors, nurses, and caretakers involved in Maradona’s final weeks.
