Maradona musical announced with 2027 Italian tour

A new musical production titled ‘Maradona El Diego – Prima della leggenda c’era il sogno di un bambino’ has been officially presented at the Maschio Angioino in Naples. Produced by the Patagonia Group, the musical is set to embark on an Italian tour in 2027, with a national premiere scheduled for February 24, 2027, at the Teatro Palapartenope in Naples. The production also plans special event dates in Verona in May 2027 and aims for international distribution across Europe and potentially China.

The musical, inspired by the book ‘L’Avvocato del D10S’ by Angelo Pisani, features Lorenzo Salvetti in the lead role of Diego Armando Maradona. Salvetti, a singer-songwriter and winner of Amici 2026, expressed the immense responsibility of portraying the football icon in the city where he became a legend. The production coincides with the centenary of SSC Napoli's foundation and the 40th anniversary of the 1986 World Cup.

In addition to the musical, other theatrical works are exploring Maradona's legacy, such as ‘Il capello di Maradona’ at Teatro Civico 14, which examines the collective memory of Naples during the 1980s and 1990s. Furthermore, volleyball coach Julio Velasco recently paid tribute to Maradona at the Festival dello Sport, highlighting the player's human qualities and respect for teammates.
