Maradona mural in Naples partially obscured by broken window

A broken window has temporarily obscured half of the face in the famous Diego Armando Maradona mural located in the Quartieri Spagnoli district of Naples. The artwork, which depicts the football legend in a Napoli jersey, features his face positioned directly over a residential window that is typically kept closed to ensure the mural is seen in its entirety.

Due to damage to the external shutter, the window can no longer be fully closed, leaving a portion of the painted face hidden. In response to the issue, an ironic sign has been posted on the window in both Italian and English, reading: ‘The window is broken. P.S. No use shouting’.

The incident follows recent restyling and redevelopment works in the area, which had kept the mural inaccessible from May to August 2026. Visitors have also noted the appearance of a new plaque stating ‘Largo Diego Armando Maradona, proprietà privata’, though no explanation for this addition has been provided.
