Maradona's 1986 'Hand of God' ball to be auctioned in US

The Adidas Azteca ball used by Diego Maradona during the 1986 World Cup quarter-final between Argentina and England is scheduled for auction in the United States. The auction, organized by Heritage Auctions, is set to take place from August 21 to 23.

Maradona used this specific ball to score both his famous "Hand of God" goal and his "Goal of the Century" during the match in Mexico City. While the starting price is set at $2.5 million, auction organizers estimate the final sale price could exceed $10 million.

The ball was previously held for decades by Ali Bin Nasser, the Tunisian referee who officiated the match. This auction follows the 2022 sale of the jersey Maradona wore during that same game, which fetched $9.3 million.
