Maradona's 1986 World Cup ball to be auctioned starting at $2.5 million

Heritage Auctions announced that the Adidas Azteca ball used by Diego Maradona in the 1986 World Cup quarter‑final against England – the venue of both the “Hand of God” and the “Goal of the Century” – will be offered for sale with a $2.5 million opening bid. The ball, originally handed to Tunisian referee Ali Bin Nasser, sold for $3.6 million in 2022 to an anonymous collector and is now back on the market, with estimates that it could fetch up to $9.2 million. Heritage auction specialist Mike Provenzale called it “the most important football memorabilia item in existence.”
